Course Overview

This Agile Team Member (Scrum Focus) course provides participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills to effectively participate in a Scrum team. It covers understanding Scrum's events, artifacts, and roles, and how to contribute productively to setting up and executing basic Agile practices within a team context using the Scrum framework.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the Agile Team Member course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand core Agile values/principles and Scrum theory, values, roles, events, and artifacts.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in all Scrum Events according to the Developer role.
  • Understand and contribute to Scrum Artifacts (Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, Increment) and the Definition of Done.
  • Participate in applying basic Scrum practices like User Stories, estimation, and task tracking on a Scrum board.
  • Understand the importance of and contribute to team collaboration, self-management, and open communication.
  • Set up personal workflows and communication methods aligned with the Scrum team's practices

Core Values & Principles of the Agile Manifesto

Scrum Theory: Empiricism (Transparency, Inspection, Adaptation)

The Scrum Values: Commitment, Focus, Openness, Respect, Courage

Scrum Roles: Product Owner, Scrum Master, Developers - Responsibilities & Interactions

Overview of Scrum Events & Artifacts


Module 2: Setting Up Your Role in Scrum Events

Purpose & Timebox: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective

Preparing for Events: What inputs are needed?

Active Participation Techniques for Developers/Team Members in each event

Setting up Personal Task Tracking for the Sprint


Module 3: Working with Scrum Artifacts - Initial Setup

Purpose: Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, Increment

Flow of Work: Product Backlog -> Sprint Backlog

Understanding the "Definition of Done" & Its Importance

Contributing to Product Backlog Refinement: Asking questions, clarifying requirements


Module 4: Setting Up Basic Scrum Practices & Techniques

User Story Structure: "As a..., I want..., So that..."

Understanding Basic Estimation Techniques: Planning Poker concept, relative sizing

Tracking Work During the Sprint: Using physical or digital Scrum boards, updating task status

Understanding Sprint Goals & Their Importance


Module 5: Setting Up Team Collaboration & Communication

Importance of Collaboration & Self-Management in Scrum

Participating Respectfully & Openly in Team Discussions

Setting up & Using Team Communication Channels (e.g., Chat, Wiki, Meeting Invites)

Providing & Receiving Constructive Feedback

Participants should have no prior Agile or Scrum experience.

Experience working in a team environment is beneficial.

Basic computer literacy.

Access to a computer and reliable internet connection.
