Cultivate a Safe Workplace: Protect People, Ensure Compliance, and Drive Operational Excellence
The health and safety course is designed to create awareness of key health and safety issues. This allows participants to understand the role everyone plays in ensuring a safe working environment. Our course covers the entire framework for staying healthy and safe at work. Discussions take a look at environmental, occupational and human factors that affect people in the workplace. Training begins with an understanding of basic definitions. We will then move on to the common causes of injuries and ill health in the workplace and find out what controls can be put in place. At the end of the course is an assessment which on completion, a certificate is awarded by the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health, UK (CIEH).
By the end of the Health and Safety Management course, participants will be able to:
Module 1: Foundations of Health and Safety Management

Moral, Legal, and Financial Reasons for Managing Safety.
Key Definitions: Hazard, Risk, Incident, Accident.
The Health and Safety Management System Model
Roles and Responsibilities for Health and Safety (Employers, Employees, Managers).
Module 2: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
Types of Workplace Hazards (Physical, Chemical, Biological, Ergonomic, Psychosocial).
Methods for Hazard Identification (Inspections, Audits, Checklists, Task Analysis, Incident Review).
Principles of Risk Assessment: Likelihood and Severity.
Conducting a Risk Assessment: Steps and Documentation.
Risk Prioritization and Evaluation.
Module 3: Risk Control and Prevention Strategies
The Hierarchy of Controls (Elimination, Substitution, Engineering Controls, Administrative Controls, Personal Protective Equipment - PPE).
Implementing Control Measures effectively.
Permit-to-Work Systems.
Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning (Fire Safety, First Aid, Evacuation).
Machine Guarding and Electrical Safety basics.
Module 4: Health and Safety Legal Framework & Compliance
Overview of Key Health and Safety Legislation (e.g., Factories Act, specific industry regulations in Nigeria).
Employer and Employee Legal Duties.
Regulatory Bodies and Enforcement.
Consequences of Non-Compliance (Fines, Imprisonment, Reputational Damage).
Basic understanding of ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
Module 5: Incident Investigation and Reporting
Definition of Incidents, Accidents, and Near Misses.
The Importance of Incident Reporting and Investigation.
Steps in Incident Investigation (Immediate Actions, Data Collection, Analysis, Root Cause Analysis - e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram).
Recommendations for Corrective and Preventive Actions.
Legal Reporting Requirements (e.g., RIDDOR principles if applicable).
Module 6: Promoting a Safety Culture and Continuous Improvement
Elements of a Positive Safety Culture.
Effective Health and Safety Communication.
Safety Training and Competence Development.
Employee Engagement and Consultation in Safety.
Monitoring and Reviewing OHS Performance (KPIs).
Auditing and Management Review.
Driving Continuous Improvement in OHS Management.
Participants enrolling for this programme will be required to have basic computing skills. Participants who meet the programme requirement should pay the course fee and complete the enrollment form 2 weeks before the programme kick off date.
